Chimney Repair Cost Estimator for Evansville
Pick what the chimney needs, how hard it is to reach, and what the brick above the roof looks like, and this gives you the typical range. Every number is from the same table on our pricing page, and there is no email gate.
You can answer all three questions from the ground with a zoomed phone photo. Shoot the top of the stack from two sides, the whole chimney, and the flashing where it meets the roof. That is enough to tell a crown from a cap, spalled faces from sound brick, and a leaning stack from a straight one.
What each answer changes
- Scope is most of the price, and the honest split is between repointing and rebuilding. The chimney service page explains where the line falls and what a rebuild from the roofline includes.
- Access is time. A walkable single-story roof is cheap. A steep two-story pitch, or a stack that needs a lift, adds real hours before any mortar goes in.
- Brick condition is the repair-or-replace question. Past about a third of the faces gone above the roof, a repoint is money spent on brick that will keep failing.
Do the cheap repair first
The single best-value masonry repair on most Evansville houses is a proper crown, because it stops water entering the top of the stack and soaking the brick from the inside. Left alone, a $400 to $1,200 crown turns into a $2,500 to $7,000 rebuild. The cracked chimney crown page shows what to look for, and the leaning chimney page covers the one symptom that should not wait for spring.
Chimneys are also the honest answer to the whole-house repointing question. They are exposed on four sides, wet from the inside by flue condensation and from the outside by rain, and Evansville runs them through roughly 77 freeze-thaw cycles a winter. They fail years before the field of the wall does, which is why the cheapest way to buy masonry here is a single visit that covers the chimney, the sills, and the worst elevation against one $500 to $800 minimum. If the walls are your concern rather than the stack, use the tuckpointing cost estimator instead.
What will my chimney repair cost?
Three questions. The ranges come straight from our published pricing, so this is a fair number before anyone gets on a roof.
Every line is a published range: chimney repointing $800 to $2,500, cast crown $400 to $1,200, rebuild from the roofline $2,500 to $7,000, full rebuild from the firebox $8,000 to $20,000, and a $500 to $800 minimum on any visit.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where do these numbers come from?
The chimney rows on our pricing page: repointing $800 to $2,500, a cast crown with a drip edge $400 to $1,200, a rebuild from the roofline $2,500 to $7,000, a full rebuild from the firebox $8,000 to $20,000, brick replacement $20 to $40 per unit, and a $500 to $800 service minimum. The calculator adds the scope you pick and adjusts for access and brick condition.
How do I know whether I need repointing or a rebuild?
The rough test is how much of the brick above the roofline has lost its face. Under about a third and the joints are the problem, so repointing is the right repair. Past that, repointing is spending money on brick that will keep failing, and the stack comes down to the roofline and goes back up with a new crown, flashing, and cap.
Should the crown be cast or a mortar wash?
Cast, with a drip edge that projects past the brick. A mortar wash troweled flat on top of the stack is what most Evansville chimneys have, and it cracks in a season or two because it is thin, unreinforced, bonded rigidly to a flue that moves, and it sheds water straight down the face of the brick.
Do I have to give an email to see the result?
No. There is no gate and no signup. The range updates as you change the dropdowns, and sending it to the quote form is optional.
